My name is Adam Svejda and I’m a CPT (Certified Piano Technician) and piano teacher located in the Kansas City, KS area. My journey with music began at the young age of 5 when I started piano lessons. I maintained this interest throughout my young adulthood and landed a full ride scholarship to study music. I left my small town of Missouri Valley, IA and moved to Lincoln, NE to study Music Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I studied with Dr. Brenda Wristen and Dr. Ann Chang who now works for the Music Institute of Chicago. During my time in college, I taught piano lessons to about 25 students and while doing so met a local piano technician. He got me interested in the work and showed me the ropes. I learned very quickly that tuning a piano is not as simple of a task as I thought. My interest was peaked and I suddenly needed to learn more about the innards of this instrument I had been playing my whole life and somehow knew nothing about. After college, however, I ended up taking a different route and pursued a career in the fire service. Eventually I got hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic with a fire department in the Kansas City area. I continued my education in music though and began learning about the anatomy of pianos and how to tune and repair them. I apprenticed with the owner of a local piano shop where I received more hands on training. Eventually beginning to do some repair and regulation work under his supervision too. Correspondence courses were completed and I eventually became a Certified Piano Technician. After all of this, I started working on my own piano and those of friends and family to build up my skills. Soon after, I started Precision Piano Tuning LLC. Here, I get to continue my love for music on my days off from the fire department and help others get the best possible sound from their pianos.
